Expansion of the Social Service Network along the Austrian-Hungarian Border

  • Programme: ERDF
  • Project number: L00143
  • Project period: 05/2012 – 11/2013
  • Contractor: Zalaegerszeg és Térsége Többcélú Kistérségi Társulás, Hungary
  • Target group(s): Health care professionals

Project description:

Like many other industrialised regions, the Austro-Hungarian border region is facing major challenges due to an ageing society. In spite of massive demand, the border regions in both countries lack nursing and social care staff, and redressing this shortage is paramount. The main goal of the  project was to provide (further) training schemes in nursing and social care for 40 students each from Hungary and Austria. The focus was on hospice and palliative care, as at present this profession does not exist in Hungary. In the course of the project, specialist networks of social care providers were established at local level.
